During the night, Kyiv was subjected to a targeted strike, marking the third such incident this week. A Russian rocket that hit the Darnytskyi district of the capital was found to be equipped with shrapnel. This was reported by Alexander Kovtunov, head of the Darnytskyi district state administration. The use of munitions with fragmentation charges created an increased threat to civilian objects and the population.
Damage and consequences of the strike
As a result of the explosion in the district, residential buildings and vehicles were damaged. Shrapnel fragments scattered across the adjacent area, shattering windows in high-rise buildings. Kovtunov noted that at the time of the attack, the street was practically empty, and people were not near the windows. This became a decisive factor in avoiding human casualties.
The blast wave also caused damage to transport infrastructure. In particular, a railway locomotive located in the impact zone was damaged. Additionally, an electrical control room responsible for traffic lights caught fire, temporarily disrupting traffic flow.
Cleanup efforts and fires
During the attack, fires broke out in several locations across the capital. Fire outbreaks were recorded not only in Darnytskyi but also in the Solomianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts. As a result of the strikes, office-warehouse and warehouse buildings caught fire. At present, all fires have been extinguished.
Transport movement has already resumed in the Darnytskyi district. Municipal services are working to restore the asphalt surface and seal broken windows in residential buildings. A relief headquarters is operating at the scene, providing support to the affected and coordinating cleanup operations.
