Ukraine has unveiled a new stage in the development of unmanned systems — P1-SUN Long interceptor drones from SkyFall, equipped with artificial intelligence. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing The New York Times.
Training on thousands of combat recordings
The AI system embedded in the P1-SUN Long has been trained on more than 10,000 video recordings of real combat interceptions. This allows the drone to independently detect an aerial target at a distance of up to 800 meters. After confirmation by the operator, the system automatically locks onto the object, pursues it, and destroys it.
Dozens of confirmed kills
According to the NYT, such interceptors already have dozens of confirmed combat kills of Russian 'Shahed' drones. The P1-SUN Long modification has become an important step in creating an autonomous complex for countering aerial threats, where AI takes over a significant part of the work in searching, tracking, and engaging targets.
Operator controls dozens of missions simultaneously
Now, one operator can control dozens of missions simultaneously, which radically increases the efficiency and scalability of the system. The drone operates autonomously, but the final decision to engage remains with the human.
SHRIKE FPV drones with AI guidance
In addition, The New York Times demonstrated the operation of SHRIKE FPV drones with AI guidance systems, which are used to engage ground targets. These devices also use artificial intelligence for precise targeting and increased attack efficiency.
Development of the Ukrainian defense sector
Previously, RBC-Ukraine reported on how the drone procurement system for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is changing and how the special weapons marketplace DOT-Chain Defence works. The media also learned new details about the Ukrainian KAB 'Vyravnyuvach' — the first glide bomb developed after almost a year and a half of work.
