Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur will continue her performance at the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, China. According to Sport RBC.UA citing Ukrainian Tennis, our athlete entered the main draw as a "lucky loser", replacing one of the tournament's top favorites. Thus, the Ukrainian has retained her chances to fight for ranking points and prize money, despite an unfinished qualifying match.

Reason for Entering the Main Draw

Snigur secured her spot in the main draw after Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska withdrew from the tournament. The Polish representative, who had recently won the title at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, was forced to withdraw due to a left thigh injury. It was her withdrawal that opened up a direct main draw spot in Ningbo for the Ukrainian.

Unfinished Qualifying Match

The situation was not easy for Snigur: the day before, she was unable to finish her final qualifying match against another Polish tennis player, Katarzyna Kawa, due to a sudden deterioration in health and dizziness. The match remained unfinished, and the Ukrainian was left outside the main draw until the lineup shifted due to Chwalińska's injury.

First Round: Rematch with Kawa

Thanks to Chwalińska's withdrawal, Snigur immediately faced a familiar opponent. In the first round of the Ningbo tournament, the Ukrainian will meet Kawa on the court once again. Thus, the athlete will have the opportunity to quickly finish the interrupted match and get her revenge for the unfinished qualifier.

Tournament Context

The Ningbo tournament belongs to the WTA 500 category and is one of the stops on the Asian swing of the season. For Snigur, participating in the main draw as a "lucky loser" means she starts directly from the first round without going through additional qualifying barriers. The Ukrainian's further fate in the tournament will depend on the outcome of the match against Kawa and subsequent battles in the draw.
