Starting May 30, Kyiv drivers will face significant changes on one of the city's key arteries — the South Bridge. Due to major repairs on the right-bank viaduct, traffic will be partially restricted for five months. This means that familiar routes will need to be re-evaluated in the coming days.

The repair work is being carried out by the state-owned enterprise "Kyivavtodor" on behalf of the Kyiv City State Administration (KGGA). Specialists will be restoring the asphalt-concrete surface — a task critical for the safety and longevity of the structure. During the works, traffic will be allowed only on the far-left lane. The other three lanes will be closed to vehicles.

What does this mean for drivers?

Expect traffic jams, especially during peak hours. Plan your trips with extra time. Alternative routes — for example, via the Darnytskyi or Pochaynynskyi bridges — will become more congested. It is recommended to check traffic conditions in advance using navigation apps and choose alternative routes.

History of restrictions

This is not the first time the South Bridge has been partially closed. Previously, repairs were carried out on the second and third lanes — then traffic was also narrowed, but not to such an extent. Now, access to the bridge will become even more limited, requiring special discipline and patience from drivers.

Weather may change everything

Important: the duration of the works may be adjusted due to adverse weather conditions. Rain, wind, or extreme heat — all of this can suspend or extend the repairs. Follow official announcements from the KGGA and "Kyivavtodor" — they will promptly inform about any changes.

Road repairs after winter in Ukraine have already been completed — but the South Bridge requires special attention. Its condition directly affects the mobility of hundreds of thousands of people daily. Patience now is the key to future comfort.
