Ukraine will receive a new military aid package from Spain worth 437 million euros. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his Telegram channel, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, following a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The head of state emphasized that Spain has consistently supported Kyiv throughout the war and announced a new tranche of aid agreed upon with Madrid, the contents of which the parties discussed with a focus on the most pressing defense needs.

Meeting Between Zelensky and Sánchez

According to the Ukrainian President, the talks with the Spanish Prime Minister involved a discussion of the current military situation and the specific needs of the armed forces. "Throughout all these years of war, Spain has consistently helped and supported us. And there is a new military aid package of 437 million euros from Spain. Thank you! We discussed its composition and the most pressing defense needs," Zelensky is quoted as saying by RBC-Ukraine. Thus, Madrid continues to increase its support, which aligns with earlier reports regarding Spain's preparation to supply heavy weaponry.

Package Contents and Defense Priorities

The President of Ukraine noted that the content of the new tranche was coordinated with the Spanish side based on the most pressing defense needs. Specific items in the package were not disclosed in the public statement; however, Spanish government sources previously indicated Madrid's readiness to transition from providing ammunition and light weaponry to heavy equipment, including surface-to-air missile systems, combat vehicles, and training for Ukrainian military personnel. This allows the new package to be viewed as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Spanish military support.

Strikes on Energy, Logistics, and Railways

Zelensky specifically highlighted the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. "This year, Russia has damaged more of our locomotives than in all the previous years of this war. Energy grids and water supply are under constant attack. The situation is difficult, especially in Kyiv, and every step of humanitarian support is also very important," the president stated. According to him, the strikes target energy, logistics, and railway infrastructure, making both military and humanitarian aid from partners critical.

Context: Aid from Other Countries and the Ramstein Meeting

The announcement of the Spanish tranche comes amid expanding support from other European nations. It was previously reported that Germany plans to allocate an additional 100 million euros to Ukraine for the restoration of water, energy, and transport infrastructure damaged by Russian shelling. Additionally, Germany and the UK are reportedly seeking additional air defense assets for Ukraine, with a plan for other partners expected to be prepared by the Ramstein meeting on November 17.

Evolution of Spanish Military Support

The new 437-million-euro package fits into the dynamic of increasing Spain's contribution to supporting Ukraine. While Madrid previously supplied mostly ammunition, personal protective equipment, and light arms, government sources now indicate preparations to supply heavy weaponry — anti-aircraft missiles and Leopard main battle tanks — as well as necessary training for Ukrainian soldiers. Coordination of deliveries is being handled through the German cell in Stuttgart, which is responsible for harmonizing military aid to Ukraine to avoid duplication and equipment shortages.
