A significant event has been recorded in the aviation world: the German company Quantum Systems, in collaboration with the engineering team N3XT, has unveiled the Apex Recordhunter drone, which set a new world speed record for battery-powered aircraft. During internal field tests, the prototype reached an unofficial maximum speed of 699 km/h in level flight.

Technological breakthrough and new standards

Until now, the top spot in the category of electric aircraft was held by the Spirit of Innovation aircraft from Rolls-Royce, which achieved a result of 555.9 km/h. The new record holder surpassed this figure by more than 140 km/h, made possible by the use of advanced engineering solutions.

Developers emphasize that the key to achieving such speeds was the use of special high-efficiency batteries developed by the German company V4Smart — a subsidiary of the automotive giant Porsche. It is precisely the energy density and power of these batteries that allowed overcoming the traditional limitations of electric aviation.

From records to real combat missions

Although the Apex Recordhunter model was created as a technology demonstrator, its potential has direct military applications. Engineers plan to adapt the project's developments to create next-generation interceptor drones. These aircraft are designed to combat the rapidly increasing attacks of kamikaze drones, such as the Shahed.

In modern conditions, where Russian drones are becoming faster and more maneuverable, the speed of the interceptor becomes a critical factor for success. The implementation of new technologies will significantly increase the range of air defense systems and give the military more time to react, which is particularly relevant for the Ukrainian front.

Ukrainian developments and upcoming tests

Parallel to the German tests, the company's Ukrainian subsidiary — WIY Drones — is preparing its own speed records, which have direct value for Ukraine's defense. Official tests involving Ukrainian specialists are scheduled for next week.

Engineers plan to officially record national records for two models created based on real combat experience:

  • "Strila" (STRILA Interceptor) — a high-speed FPV interceptor that will set a speed record during flight with a 0.5 kg payload.
  • "Spys" (SPYS) — a high-speed anti-aircraft drone designed to destroy aerial targets in the sky.

Quantum Systems has confirmed that it will continue to invest in joint defense developments. The official results of both the German and Ukrainian records will be announced immediately after the completion of all verification and certification procedures by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI).
