On August 14, 2026, the European football calendar enters its hottest phase. For Ukrainian fans, it is time when attention shifts back to the continent's giants. In the coming weeks, the five major championships of the Old World will kick off: the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. Each tournament brings unique intrigues related to title defenses, transfer reshuffles, and the fight for Champions League qualification.

Premier League: "Arsenal" vs. the World

English football traditionally opens the season early. The 2026/27 season begins on August 21 with a match between "Arsenal" and "Coventry". The London club starts as the defending champion, finally ending a long wait for the title. The main task for the "Gunners" will be defending their championship, which historically is a difficult challenge for any club.

The main competitors for "Arsenal" are cited as "Manchester City" and "Liverpool". "Chelsea", "Manchester United", and "Newcastle" could also join the medal race. The season will conclude on May 30, 2027, when all 38th-round matches will start simultaneously. In Ukraine, Premier League broadcasts are exclusively carried by the Setanta Sports channel.

Spain and Italy: Classic Duels and New Coaches

The Spanish La Liga starts slightly earlier — on August 15, and finishes on May 30, 2027. "Barcelona" will attempt to defend the title, but they will have to fight "Real Madrid", which features Kylian Mbappé in its squad. "Atletico" under Diego Simeone should not be counted out. Ukrainian fans will follow the fate of Andriy Lunin in the Madrid club.

In Italy, the Serie A season will begin on August 22–23. "Inter" is trying to defend the scudetto, but "Napoli" and "Juventus" pose a threat. "Milan" is of particular interest, having been taken over by Ruben Amorim, while retaining the legendary Luka Modric in the squad. The Ukrainian trail in Italy is strengthening: Artem Dovbyk will continue his career at "Bologna". Broadcasts of both leagues in Ukraine are available on the MEGOGO platform.

Germany and France: Dominance and Challenges

The Bundesliga starts last among the top leagues — August 28–30. The season will open with a match between "Bayern Munich" and "Stuttgart". The Munich club, which, as seen in the photo celebrating the 2026 champions, remains the main force in Germany, is aiming for a new title. Competition could come from Dortmund's "Borussia" and "Bayer Leverkusen". Ukrainians also play in Germany: Yefim Konoplya plays for "Borussia" Mönchengladbach. Broadcasts are carried by Setanta Sports.

The French Ligue 1 starts on August 21. PSG remains the undisputed favorite, but "Marseille" and "Monaco" are trying to challenge them. In "Lyon", managed by Paulo Fonseca, there is a possibility of Roman Yaremchuk's appearance. The season will end on May 29, 2027. In Ukraine, Ligue 1 matches are also shown on MEGOGO.
