Sudden cooling and stronger winds have caught Ukraine's residents off guard. Meteorologists warn that today, May 28, a cold atmospheric front will sweep across the country, bringing not only a sharp drop in temperatures but also stormy wind gusts.
Weather Swings: From Heat to Cool Winds
Ukraine has found itself in the wake of a cold front, which will inevitably lead to changing weather conditions. Precipitation, which was heavy and thunderous just yesterday, will become localized and minor today. However, the main threat is the wind. Cold, heavy air creates increased pressure, provoking sharp gusts.
What to Expect in the Regions
Daytime temperatures will drop to +15...+19°C. The only exception will be the southern regions, where the thermometer will not exceed +22°C. At night, it will get even colder: in most regions, temperatures will fall to +5...+10°C.
The wind will blow predominantly from the northwest. Its speed will be 7–12 m/s, but during the day, gusts up to 15–20 m/s are possible in most regions. In Kyiv, meteorologists forecast strong northwesterly winds and light rain, with daytime temperatures not rising above +15°C.
Forecast for the Week and the Start of Summer
According to expert Natalia Didenko, cool weather will last until the end of the week. However, a new warming is expected in early June. Meteorologists have also released a preliminary forecast for June: the average temperature of the first summer month will be 1.5°C above normal, and thunderstorm activity will increase.
May 2026 will be remembered by Ukrainians as a month of weather swings: from downpours and hail to sudden cooling. But despite nature's whims, meteorologists have already officially recorded the arrival of a new meteorological season.
