Ukraine today, May 27, found itself at the epicenter of a powerful atmospheric front. Stormy winds, heavy rains, and hail caused serious inconveniences for residents of many regions. Meteorologists had warned of thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 20 m/s, and the forecast proved accurate.
Roads Under Threat: Aftermath of the Storm
The situation was particularly difficult on the roads. In the Khmelnytskyi region, a storm felled trees onto the highway between Khmelnytskyi and Kamianets-Podilskyi, as well as in the area of Skarzhintsy. In the Ternopil region, the wind was so strong that, according to eyewitnesses, it knocked people off their feet. In the village of Slobidka, bad weather also brought down trees, posing a threat to infrastructure.
Heroic Policeman: Saving School Buses
One of the most vivid episodes of the day occurred in the Stepanetska community. Patrol police officer Vitaliy Stepanets discovered a traffic jam: a fallen tree completely blocked the road, causing school buses and other vehicles to stop. The policeman did not wait for backup; he took a saw and cleared the passage himself. Thanks to his actions, traffic was promptly restored.
Forecast and Warnings
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warned that the bad weather would persist throughout the day. The situation is expected to be particularly dangerous in the Kyiv region, where thunderstorms are forecast. Meteorologists noted that weather conditions could complicate the work of energy, construction, and utility enterprises, as well as transport movement.
What to Expect Next?
As early as yesterday, Ukrhydrometcenter declared a yellow danger level due to wind gusts of up to 15-20 m/s in all regions of Ukraine. Meanwhile, meteorologists have already published a preliminary forecast for June: the average temperature of the first month of summer is expected to be 1.5 degrees above normal, and thunderstorm activity will become even more intense.
