A sharp debate erupted at the UN Security Council, during which the US side voiced a harsh assessment of the current situation in Ukraine. US Representative Dan Negrea did not resort to diplomatic euphemisms, directly labeling Russia's invasion a "strategic failure".
Assessment of the Situation and Warning of Escalation
The American diplomat emphasized in his speech that Moscow is unable to achieve its objectives on the battlefield. Negrea presented arguments regarding the enemy's critical infrastructure, noting that Russian refineries are under attack and "in flames".
A key element of the speech was a warning regarding the further dynamics of the conflict. The diplomat stated that an attempt to escalate will not change the strategic situation but carries the risk of turning the situation into a catastrophe. "This war must stop immediately," he emphasized.
Pressure on Moscow's Allies
Special attention during the session was paid to countries continuing to support Russian military efforts. Dan Negrea issued stern calls to Tehran and Havana, demanding that they immediately cease their participation in the conflict.
The list of countries subjected to criticism included:
- Iran — for supplying unmanned aerial vehicles used to strike Ukrainian territory.
- Cuba — for providing the opportunity for thousands of mercenaries to fight on Russia's side.
The US called on these states to stop their assistance, pointing out that it only prolongs suffering and destruction.
Negotiations as the Only Way Out
Despite the harsh rhetoric, the US representative outlined Washington's position regarding the end of the conflict. Negrea emphasized that the war has no purely military solution and can be stopped exclusively through negotiations.
The US declared its readiness to facilitate the achievement of a lasting peace. According to the diplomat, Washington has repeatedly conveyed this position to both sides of the conflict.
Diplomatic Activity and Visit to Kyiv
Against the backdrop of UN sessions, contacts between the Ukrainian and American sides have intensified. On the eve of the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner. The conversation took place during a layover during a technical stop of the plane in Chișinău.
It is expected that Witkoff and Kushner will visit Kyiv for the first time in the near future. The exact date of the visit has not yet been determined, but the very fact of preparing the trip indicates that work on diplomatic channels to resolve the situation is continuing.
