Significant changes are coming to the roads of Ukraine. A new bill is being developed in the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for a substantial tightening of liability for exceeding the speed limit. The initiative is aimed at reducing the level of injury and mortality in road accidents, but for drivers, it will result in higher financial risks.
Joint work of deputies and police
The preparation of the document was announced by People's Deputy from the "Servant of the People" party, Olga Vasilevskaya-Smaglyuk, in her Telegram channel. According to her, the bill is being developed in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police of Ukraine. The official name of the document is "On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses Regarding the Tightening of Liability for Actions Leading to Injury and Mortality on the Roads".
The essence of the initiative lies in reviewing the size of administrative penalties. Deputies and law enforcement officers have concluded that current fines are not a sufficient deterrent for traffic violators. The document is currently in the preparation stage and has not yet been adopted by parliament.
The control system is tightening
The increase in fines will be part of a complex of measures to improve road safety. Already this year, the country plans to implement a system of penalty points. According to the new mechanism, drivers will lose their licenses for accumulating a certain number of violations. This should become an additional argument for compliance with the rules.
Parallel to legislative changes, the technical base for control is expanding. Recently, 37 more complexes for automatic recording of traffic violations began operating on the roads of Ukraine. Cameras record speeding and other offenses, transmitting data for issuing fines.
