Details have emerged regarding the consequences of a night attack on nuclear infrastructure within the exclusion zone. Media outlets have obtained the first photographs of the container reception building at the Centralized Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel (CSFSNF), which was damaged by a strike from a Russian drone.

Scale of destruction

Images published in the NAEC "Energoatom" Telegram channel show significant damage to the building's structure. The building is partially destroyed: holes are visible in the walls, parts of the facade have collapsed, and there are signs of fire. According to sources, the drone impact caused a fire covering approximately 40 square meters, which was quickly extinguished.

Chronology and details of the incident

The attack took place in the night of June 7. According to updated data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the strike occurred around 02:10 on a facility near the village of Buryakivka in the Kyiv region. The location is approximately 15 kilometers from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP).

Debris from a Shahed-type attack drone was found at the scene. The Russian side used the drone to strike the administrative building of the storage facility.

Situation with nuclear fuel

Despite the severity of the building damage, representatives of "Energoatom" assured that spent nuclear fuel was not stored in the room where the explosion occurred at the time of the attack. This ruled out the risk of an immediate radiation release as a result of the incident.

NAEC "Energoatom" noted that such actions indicate the continuation of Russia's "nuclear terror" tactics. The company emphasized that such security threats affect not only Ukraine but all of Europe.
