On the night of June 22, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a large-scale operation targeting a strategically important facility in the Moscow region — the Dubna Space Communications Center (SCC). According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the attack caused significant damage to infrastructure critical for the Russian military.
Confirmed Infrastructure Damage
Further analysis of data obtained after the strike confirmed direct hits on key nodes of the complex. Specifically, the equipment module complex housing the 32-meter MARK-IV antenna, used for satellite communications, was damaged. The strike also hit a technical building located in immediate proximity to the antenna.
Analysts paid particular attention to the damage inflicted on the Main Production and Administrative Building. As a result of the attack, one of the building's walls was partially destroyed. This facility serves as the 'brain center' of the station, housing:
- The central communication equipment line;
- Ground Control Complex equipment;
- The central control panel for the satellite network.
Strategic Significance of the Target
The Dubna SCC is the largest ground-based satellite communications complex in Russia. Its functionality extends far beyond civilian use. The center is actively utilized to support military communications and manage satellite repeaters employed by the Russian Ministry of Defense for reconnaissance and coordination of troop movements.
Operation Details and Consequences
The attack on 'Dubna' was part of broader operations by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which also struck the 'Kavkaz' port in the Krasnodar Krai and enemy logistics facilities on the same night. Immediately following the strike on the space communications center, massive smoke was observed, indicating the high intensity of the drone impact.
