Ukrainian defense forces launched a series of strikes against key Russian military infrastructure and energy logistics targets. In the Black Sea, the 'shadow fleet' tanker FINA A (IMO 9283306), used to transport oil in violation of international sanctions, was struck. Simultaneously, two road bridges and several enemy command posts were destroyed.
Strike on Tanker FINA A
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the attack on the vessel took place on June 16 and the night of June 17. The FINA A tanker is under sanctions from the EU, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, and Ukraine. Its length is 244.6 meters, with a gross tonnage of 62,002 units. The vessel was actively used by Russia to export oil and petroleum products, evading restrictions imposed by Western countries.
The extent of the tanker's damage is being clarified. However, similar attacks previously led to serious consequences: for example, the tanker WEST Horizon was damaged in the propeller-rudder group and lost the ability to move independently. Another vessel, Dashan, was attacked by Sea Baby sea drones and was also disabled.
Strikes on Military Infrastructure
In addition to maritime targets, Ukrainian forces struck facilities used by Russian troops for transferring equipment and managing combat operations. In the area of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region, an enemy command and observation post and a command post were hit.
Furthermore, drone control points in several areas were attacked. These strikes are aimed at reducing the Russian army's ability to conduct combat operations and disrupting its logistical chains.
Previous Attacks on the 'Shadow Fleet'
This is not the first time Ukrainian forces have struck 'shadow fleet' vessels. Previously, tankers Kairo and Virat, heading to Novorossiysk for loading, were hit. Both vessels were disabled. The tanker Kairo was attempted to be towed to Bulgaria, but subsequently sank.
The General Staff emphasizes that such attacks are systematic and aimed at weakening Russia's economic and military power. Destroying vessels involved in circumventing sanctions strikes at the Kremlin's revenues, which finance the war.
Significance of Attacks for the International Situation
The destruction of 'shadow fleet' tankers has not only military but also political significance. These vessels often mask their ownership, sailing under the flags of third countries, such as the Comoros. Attacks on them demonstrate Ukraine's ability to effectively counter Russia's attempts to bypass international restrictions.
At the same time, strikes on bridges and command posts show that Ukrainian forces continue to act actively on land, disrupting the logistics and command of Russian troops. This creates additional difficulties for the enemy and slows down its offensive operations.
Thus, comprehensive attacks on maritime and land targets indicate a strategic approach by the Ukrainian defense, aimed at multi-level pressure on the Russian war machine.
