A new tragedy has occurred in the Zarechne district of Sumy: the enemy launched an attack with three guided aerial bombs on civilian infrastructure objects. Information about the incident has been confirmed by the city head Artem Kobzar, who reported the severe consequences of the attack.
Casualties and Injured
According to the latest data, the death of four people has been confirmed. Among the deceased is a child. Another seven residents sustained injuries of varying severity and were taken to medical facilities where they are receiving necessary assistance. Rescue operations at the site of the munition impacts are ongoing, and specialists are clarifying the full extent of the damage and consequences for the population.
Warning from Authorities
The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Hryhorov, warned that the threat of new attacks on the city remains. Authorities strongly recommend that residents stay in safe places and strictly prohibit approaching the impact sites due to the risk of repeated strikes or the explosion of unexploded ordnance.
History of Attacks on the City
This is not the first attempt to destabilize the situation in the region. On July 3, Russian forces launched a massive strike on Sumy, using a large number of unmanned aerial vehicles and guided aerial bombs. At that time, one of the city's central streets was hit: a multi-story residential building, a commercial object, and the road surface were damaged. As a result of that attack, three people were killed, 27 were injured, including a 13-year-old child in critical condition.
International Response
Following the tragic events in Sumy, the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, appealed to the international community. He stated that the world must respond to the strikes on Ukrainian cities by tightening sanctions pressure on the aggressor, as well as by accelerating the transfer of additional air defense systems and interceptors to Ukraine to protect the civilian population.
