On the day of the opening of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck strategically important objects in the Leningrad Region. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert "Madyar" Brovda, ships and infrastructure facilities in the port of Kronstadt were targeted.
Attack in the Spotlight
The incident occurred against the backdrop of one of Russia's largest economic events, where top officials traditionally speak. Co-owner and Chief Designer of Fire Point, Denis Stilyerman, noted the irony of the situation in his post on social network X: instead of a tour of the cruiser "Moscow," which could not be delivered, "two other ships had to be sunk right at the venue of the event".
Targets and Scale of Damage
Video provided by "Madyar" shows the destruction of the Russian corvette "Boykiy". The vessel was in a dry dock on the territory of the Kronstadt naval base, located 1100 km from the Ukrainian border. In addition, strikes were carried out on the Kronstadt Shipyard — one of the largest terminals in the Baltic region.
The plant, equipped with 21 tanks for the storage and transshipment of petroleum products, became the target of a drone attack. At least four major fire foci were recorded in the tank farm area.
Context of Night Attacks
The attack on Kronstadt was a continuation of a series of strikes on objects in the Leningrad Region. On the night of June 3, drones hit an oil terminal in the port of St. Petersburg, causing a massive fire. PJSC "Petersburg Oil Terminal" is a key oil refining complex in northwestern Russia.
The Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, reported that 30 drones were shot down over the region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that on that night the Defense Forces struck a number of important objects, including the terminal in St. Petersburg, facilities of the base in Kronstadt, and an enterprise in the Tambov region.
Official Confirmations
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the fact of the destruction of the oil terminal and other objects, noting that the scale of the damage is being clarified. The attack in Kronstadt, coinciding with the start of SPIEF, became a resonant event, demonstrating the ability of Ukrainian drones to cover significant distances and strike targets deep inside enemy territory.
