On the night of July 8, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a large-scale operation targeting strategic energy infrastructure and logistics deep within Russian territory. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), strikes were launched against two major oil refineries, a military airfield, as well as 'shadow fleet' vessels and bridges in border regions.
Strikes on Oil Refining Infrastructure
The centerpiece of the night's events were attacks on oil refining facilities. One of the primary targets was the Saratov Oil Refinery. Following the strike, powerful explosions were heard on the site, followed by a massive fire. The AFU General Staff notes that the plant is part of Rosneft and is one of the key enterprises in the Volga region.
The production capacity of the Saratov Refinery is estimated at approximately 7 million tons of oil per year. The enterprise specializes in the production of gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, which, according to Ukrainian sources, is actively used to support Russia's military logistics.
The second facility damaged during the operation was the 'TAIF-NK' oil refining complex in Nizhnekamsk (Tatarstan). Explosions and fires were also recorded at this site. It is one of the largest industry enterprises in Russia with a total capacity of more than 8 million tons of raw materials per year. The plant's products, including aviation fuel and diesel, are critical for the functioning of the Russian economy and army.
The Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) confirmed the destruction of two plants in Nizhnekamsk, specifically noting the 'TANECO' refinery — one of the most modern in the country with a refining depth of up to 99%.
Destroying Tankers and Striking Logistics
In addition to land-based infrastructure, Ukrainian military forces struck enemy maritime communications. Six tankers belonging to the Russian 'shadow fleet' were hit. One vessel was destroyed in the Black Sea, and another five in the Sea of Azov. According to the General Staff, these ships were used to supply occupation forces in southern Ukraine.
Also during the operation, the 'Borisoglebsk' military airfield in the Voronezh region was struck. Details and results of the attack are currently being clarified.
Bridge Destruction in Belgorod Region
Separately, reports have been made regarding the results of an attack carried out the previous day, July 7. Road bridges in the Urazovo and Shelayevo districts of the Belgorod region were hit. According to the report, Russian troops used these transport arteries to move personnel, weapons, and material resources.
Previously, the Ukrainian side reported hitting nine more 'shadow fleet' tankers and causing a partial blackout in Crimea. At the same time, the head of the SBU, Serhiy Syrskyi, summarizing the strikes against the Russian army for June, admitted that it is premature to speak of a turning point in the war.
