Starting July 1, Kyiv has implemented a schedule change regarding public transport rules for students. According to RBC-Ukraine, citing the Kyiv City State Administration (Kyiv City Council), free transport for schoolchildren has been temporarily suspended for the duration of the summer holidays.
Benefits during the holidays
Traditionally, free transport for the capital's schoolchildren is valid exclusively during the academic year. Consequently, from July 1 to August 31, this benefit is not provided. Instead of free rides, students are offered to purchase travel passes, which come with a 75% discount.
Important payment nuances
Parents should be aware of the specifics of using these discounts. If a child pays for single trips using a student ID, the 75% discount does not apply — in this case, the full fare must be paid. The economically advantageous option for the summer period is specifically the purchase of a special travel pass.
Additional restrictions
The changes affect not only schoolchildren. Until the beginning of September, free transport is also suspended for cadets of higher military educational institutions in Kyiv. This is a temporary measure related to the calendar break in the academic process.
Restoration of benefits
The restrictions will last exactly until the start of the new academic year. As of September 1, free transport for schoolchildren in the capital's public transport will be fully restored.
