With the arrival of summer holidays in Kyiv, the rules for using city public transport are changing. From July 1 to August 31, 2026, new fare conditions will come into force for two categories of passengers: schoolchildren and cadets of higher military educational institutions in the capital.
Changes for Schoolchildren
During the summer holidays, free travel for school students is cancelled. Now, schoolchildren will have to pay for trips on buses, trolleybuses, and trams. However, the city authorities have provided a significant compensation for students.
Owners of valid student tickets are entitled to a 75% discount on the purchase of travel passes. This allows for a significant reduction in travel expenses around the city during the summer.
It is important to consider a nuance regarding single trips. Although they can also be paid for using a student ticket, the 75% discount does not apply to single fare tariffs. Thus, maximum savings are preserved only when purchasing monthly or other periodic travel documents.
Rules for Military University Cadets
Separate changes will affect cadets of higher military educational institutions in Kyiv. For the period from July 1 to August 31, 2026, preferential travel for this category is cancelled. Cadets are required to pay for travel in city public transport on general terms, like other adult passengers.
Representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCCA) clarified the details of the innovations, emphasizing that the changes are temporary and apply exclusively during the summer period.
