The National Bank of Ukraine has introduced new 10-hryvnia commemorative circulation coins. This release continues the 'We Are Strong. We Are Together' series, dedicated to honoring Ukrainian regions and their residents who have demonstrated incredible resilience during the war. This time, the coins feature the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
A Symbol of Gratitude to Border Regions
NBU Head Andriy Pyshny emphasized that the choice of these regions was not accidental. Sumy and Chernihiv were among the first to bear the brunt of the full-scale invasion. The coins embody gratitude to the residents of these regions who stood firm, protected their communities, and maintained faith in Ukraine.
Design Details and Mintage
The coins are made from a zinc-based alloy with a nickel coating. The obverse (front side) fully corresponds to the standard 2018 10-hryvnia coin design, featuring the denomination, year of minting, and the State Emblem of Ukraine.
The reverse (back side) features a unique design. It displays a stylized map of Ukraine with the respective region—either Sumy or Chernihiv—highlighted. The reverse design was created by Oleksandra Kuchynska, while Volodymyr Demianenko served as the obverse artist and sculptor.
The total mintage is 2 million coins of each type. They are a full legal tender and can be used for payments without any restrictions throughout Ukraine.
How to Purchase the Coins
In addition to general circulation, part of the mintage will be packaged in special rolls of 25 coins. The mintage for these sets is 15,000 units for each region. They can be purchased through the NBU online store and distributor banks. Information regarding the start of sales will be available on the NBU's official resources.
