The night of June 6 became yet another test for residents of the border region. Russian forces launched a series of strikes on the Sumy region, targeting critical infrastructure and civilian objects. Energy networks, transport hubs, and even postal routes found themselves at the epicenter of the attacks.
Energy Sector Under Attack
As Oleksandr Grygorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported, the main blow struck the energy infrastructure. Since the evening, many settlements in the region have experienced large-scale power outages. Lights have gone out in homes, enterprises have stopped operating, and the usual rhythm of life has been disrupted.
Energy workers are operating in emergency mode to eliminate the consequences. Teams have already been dispatched to the sites of damage to restore power supply as quickly as possible; however, the scale of destruction requires time and resources.
Tragedy at a Gas Station and on the Road
After midnight, an enemy drone attacked a gas station in the Trostianets hromada. As a result of the hit, a gas station employee was injured. The woman was urgently hospitalized; doctors assess her condition as stable — her life is not in danger.
Another tragedy occurred later: a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle attacked a postal vehicle on the highway in the Sumy district, near the Sadova hromada. The driver was injured and taken to the hospital, where he is receiving necessary medical care.
Casualties Among Civilians
During the day, five more people were injured in border hromadas of the Sumy region as a result of enemy attacks. This is not the first attack in recent days — on the night of June 5, the "Kernel" terminal in the port of Chornomorsk was damaged, and in the Kyiv region, four people died at the "Yahotynske for Children" factory due to drone strikes.
Overall Picture of Attacks
On the night of June 6, Russia launched 272 strike drones against Ukraine. Air defense forces managed to shoot down the majority of them, but some still reached their targets. In addition to the Sumy region, strikes were carried out on the Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions — there, too, civilian and critical infrastructure objects were damaged, with casualties and injuries reported.
The situation remains tense. Civilians continue to live under constant threat, while authorities and rescuers are doing everything possible to minimize the consequences of the attacks and restore normal life.
