Sanctions pressure on the supply chain of components for Russian guided glide bombs (KABs) is concentrated primarily on a single company, while the majority of its contractors and Chinese manufacturers remain free of restrictions. This is according to a study by the Center for Defense Reforms (CDR).

Scope and Features of Sanctions Pressure

According to the CDR report, TRV-Engineering has fallen under the strict sanctions of the EU, the US, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, and Ukraine, while Omnitrade and Gulfwind are restricted only by the US and Ukraine. At the same time, a number of other suppliers face no sanctions, including Farad Trade, CED Sail, MAK, Rada-Export, PKF Rada, NPO Prodvizheniye, Eminent International, Sovremennyye Kompleksnyye Postavki - Mobile, and Spetsmetall.

Role of Chinese Manufacturers and Financial Performance

CDR notes that Chinese manufacturers without sanctions include KST Digital Technology (servo drives), Shenzhen Fire Power Control Technology, and Shanghai Dongzhi Technology (inertial sensors). Baoding Kaituo is the only one under US export restrictions. Because of this unevenness, the Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV) can continue purchasing necessary components without major limitations.

Financial indicators of the supply chain participants show exponential growth. Following a contract with TRV-Engineering on December 12, 2024, the company received 2.9 billion rubles from it in 2025, with its net profit increasing about 55-fold to 971.3 million rubles. The firm was registered in 2022, and at least three co-founders previously worked at the Irkut aircraft manufacturing corporation.

Production Chain and Capacity Expansion

Analysts link the supply chain to UMPK-500M module production through the end consumer, the Typhoon instrument-making plant. Experts point out that assembly localization does not eliminate dependence on imported components. CDR also previously reported the involvement of the Smolensk Aviation Plant in UMPK production, indicating Russia's intent to maintain intensive offensive operations.

Significance of the Study and Future Prospects

The analysts' findings indicate that existing restrictions require a comprehensive review. Experts suggest treating the TRV-Engineering network as a single system and preparing targeted measures for Chinese manufacturers. Closing microelectronics supply loopholes remains a key factor in curbing military-industrial capabilities.
