Controversial Decision by the International Criminal Court
Within the walls of the International Criminal Court (ICC), an event occurred capable of altering the course of international investigations. Information about possible harassment by Karim Khan first appeared in the autumn of 2024. According to Western media, the accusations were made by his assistant—a lawyer from Malaysia. The prosecutor himself categorically rejects all claims, calling them part of an Israeli special operation aimed at his discreditation.
Khan's lawyers disagree with the suspension decision, considering it illegal. The defense states that the allegations are not supported by sufficient evidence. Since May 2025, Khan has been on administrative leave pending the investigation.
Consequences for International Justice
Karim Asad Ahmad Khan, a 56-year-old British lawyer specializing in international criminal law and human rights, has held the post of ICC Chief Prosecutor since February 2021. It was he who secured the arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, making him one of the most prominent figures in modern international law.
In Russia, a criminal case has already been opened against Khan for "unlawful prosecution of Russian citizens." A Moscow court sentenced him in absentia to 15 years in prison. Additionally, the US imposed sanctions on Khan after the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
