Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko officially confirmed that she will lead the Ukrainian delegation to the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC-2026) in the Polish city of Gdansk, replacing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Who is going to Gdansk and why
RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement from the head of government, reports that the decision to change the leader of the delegation has already been made. "I will lead the Ukrainian delegation and our work in general at URC-2026 in Gdansk," Sviridenko stated. This decision highlights the high priority Kyiv attaches to the upcoming forum, despite the absence of the head of state.
Specific and ambitious tasks have been set for the team that the Prime Minister will lead. According to Sviridenko, the main goal is to reach agreements capable of genuinely strengthening the defense capabilities and resilience of the Ukrainian state. Furthermore, expanding economic cooperation with international partners is a key focus for the delegation.
"Ukraine respects its partners and builds cooperation precisely on the principle of mutual respect," the Prime Minister added, emphasizing Kyiv's diplomatic approach.
Polish context and diplomatic scandal
Preparations for the conference are taking place against the backdrop of strained relations between Kyiv and Warsaw. The situation has escalated to the point where the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, did not receive an official invitation to the event.
The cause of the diplomatic crisis was an incident involving the Order of the White Eagle. As RBC-Ukraine previously reported, the scandal erupted after Nawrocki decided to revoke this award from Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This move became a catalyst for the cooling of relations, which directly influenced the format of the Polish leadership's participation in URC-2026.
