Significant personnel changes have occurred within the Ukrainian military department. Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Alexander Syrsky and former Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov have left their operational positions. However, their departure from command posts does not mean they will completely disappear from the country's military structure.
Intellectual Contribution Instead of Operational Management
According to sources close to the situation, neither Syrsky nor Hnatov will participate in current operational activities. This decision is dictated by the need to change leadership on the front lines, but their experience remains critically important for the state.
"They definitely will not be involved in operational activities. They have knowledge and expertise, so they will be involved intellectually, visionarily," stated an anonymous source commenting on the future of the retired generals.
Possible Future in the Education System
The question of exactly where this experience will be applied remains open, but specific directions have already been named. In particular, the option of Alexander Syrsky joining the military education system is being considered. His deep knowledge and command experience could be used to train a new generation of officers.
However, the source noted that final decisions have not yet been made: "Syrsky might be somewhere in the military education system — but we'll see." This highlights that the process of integrating former leaders into new roles is still in the discussion and planning stage.
