The situation in northern Ukraine remains tense. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, in an interview with the TSN channel, voiced alarming data regarding the plans of the Russian command. According to him, Russian occupiers are actively considering several scenarios for new offensive operations.
Seizing Kyiv or Chernihiv?
Syrsky confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has tasked the General Staff with calculating offensive options. Among them are attacks from the territory of Belarus aimed at seizing Kyiv and other strategic territories. However, the general expressed doubt that the Belarusian leadership would agree to provide its territory as a launching pad for Russian troops again, despite Kyiv taking this scenario into account.
The most likely scenario: a strike from the Bryansk region
In the commander's opinion, the most realistic and data-confirmed option is an offensive from the territory of Russia, specifically from the Bryansk region. Unlike the hypothetical strike on Kyiv, the main objective in this case appears to be the Chernihiv region.
The enemy's goal: stretching the front
Russia's strategic task in this case is not so much the seizure of territories as the creation of a threat. The enemy is trying to penetrate deep into Ukrainian territory to force the Ukrainian Armed Forces command to redeploy defenders from the main directions where active combat operations are currently taking place. Thus, Russia seeks to stretch the defensive front and deprive Ukraine of necessary reserves.
Infrastructure on the border and Lukashenko's position
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Belarus is constructing objects along the border necessary for Russia's "SVO" — roads and ammunition depots. Zelenskyy called to stop these processes and warned about the risk of using Belarusian territory for an offensive. At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly stated that he does not want to fight against Ukraine.
