Iranian authorities have officially denied reports of President Masoud Pezeshkian's resignation. Officials in Tehran described the information from foreign media as "absurd rumors" and "political games," urging the public not to pay attention to them.
Rumors about a possible change in the head of state arose after a publication by the opposition channel Iran International. The outlet claimed that Pezeshkian sent a letter to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, complaining about the de facto seizure of power by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the government's removal from key decision-making processes.
However, the presidential administration categorically rejected these claims. Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, Deputy Head of the Presidential Chancellery for Communications, and Elyas Hazrati, Head of the Government Information Committee, labeled the publications as lies in their statements. The press office emphasized that Masoud Pezeshkian continues to perform his duties in full.
Experts note that such rumors arise against the backdrop of deep disagreements within the Iranian elite. The situation is exacerbated by the country's difficult economic situation and ongoing, yet so far fruitless, negotiations with the US. At present, there is no confirmed independent information that a resignation has been accepted or that Pezeshkian has actually left his post.
