The Boguslav "Sershni" suffered their first defeat in the 2026/27 Ukrainian Hockey Championship season. In a tense and action-packed home match against "Odeshchyna", the tournament newcomers showed character by coming from behind twice during the game, but failed to hold onto the tie in the final period, losing 4-6.
Match flow and goal shootout
The encounter in Boguslav started with an extremely cautious game from both teams. The opponents tested each other out for a long time, and for almost the entire first period, spectators saw no goals. Just 19 seconds before the first intermission, visiting forward Anatoly Revuk managed to break the deadlock, putting "Odeshchyna" ahead. The game opened up in the second period: Artem Lesnikov equalized, but the guests quickly responded with a goal from Shcherbak, after which Revuk scored his second. Nevertheless, "Sershni" showed the will to win, and accurate shots by Vysotenko and Valkun restored parity on the scoreboard by the end of the second period at 3-3.
The climax in the third period
The decisive twenty minutes began with a quick goal by the hockey players from the Odesa region, scored by Stetsiura. The hosts found the strength to fight back again thanks to Panchenko, who made it 4-4 in the 48th minute. However, the turning point of the match was a penalty against the Boguslav team and the subsequent power-play conversion. In the 52nd minute, Artem Tselogorodtsev put the guests ahead, and a minute before the final siren, he scored again, sealing the final result with 10 goals in total and an "Odeshchyna" victory.
Tournament consequences and schedule
Despite their first defeat of the season after bright victories over "Kremenchuk" and "Sokil", "Sershni" maintain high positions in the standings. Following the matches played, "Odeshchyna" scored eight points and took sole leadership of the Ukrainian Championship, while the Boguslav club with the same number of points is in second place. New challenges lie ahead: on October 14, "Odeshchyna" will meet "Dnipro", and "Sershni" will try to rehabilitate themselves on October 15 in a match against "Kremenchuk".
