Police officers in Terebovlia, Ternopil Region, have officially switched to using Tesla electric vehicles. This initiative is implemented as part of a large-scale pilot project aimed at achieving complete energy independence for national police units and reducing their carbon footprint.
Sources of Funding and Equipment Distribution
According to official sources from the Ternopil police, purchasing expensive electric cars was made possible entirely through direct financial support from local businesses. Regional entrepreneurs joined forces to provide law enforcement officers with modern transport.
The new eco-friendly cars were handed over directly to units that are first to respond to emergency calls from citizens. These include patrol police response groups as well as reinforced investigative and operational teams that require maximum efficiency and maneuverability.
Economic Benefits and Strategic Reserve
Switching to electric propulsion promises significant savings for the state budget. The use of electric vehicles drastically reduces spending on traditional fuel and minimizes maintenance costs due to fewer moving parts in electric motors.
Additionally, experts highlight the creation of an important strategic reserve. In the event of potential shortages or disruptions in traditional petroleum product supplies, Ukrainian law enforcement officers will be able to continue uninterrupted patrolling and service duties thanks to the autonomy of electric cars.
Assistance to Ukraine's Defense Forces
Alongside the introduction of modern technologies, the Terebovlia police carried out an internal fleet optimization. Three reliable diesel vehicles previously on duty and used by patrol officers were officially decommissioned from the structure's balance sheet.
The management decided to transfer the freed-up diesel equipment directly to the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine performing combat missions on the front lines. Thus, the modernization of the Ternopil region police has directly strengthened the country's defense capabilities.
