Explosion in Kyiv: Timeline of the Tragedy
Early in the morning on June 5, around 04:15, a powerful explosion occurred in the Obolon district of Kyiv. The epicenter of the tragedy was the sorting center of Ukraine's largest logistics operator — the company Nova Poshta. The incident happened during the inspection of one of the incoming packages, which led to an immediate fire at the depot.
The situation on the ground was critical. Rapidly arriving rescue workers and fire departments quickly contained and extinguished the fire. However, the cost of the incident proved to be unacceptably high — human lives.
Casualties and Injured
As a result of the explosion, 58-year-old company employee Ivan Zharky died. His death was a shock to the team and his family. Two other employees of the sorting center — 41-year-old Vadym Protsenko and 37-year-old Denys Karachev — sustained injuries of varying severity. They are currently under medical supervision, and doctors are assessing their condition.
Representatives of Nova Poshta confirmed that they have taken full responsibility for organizing the funeral of the deceased colleague. The company also stated that it maintains constant contact with the families of the injured, promising to provide them with all necessary assistance and support during this difficult period.
Qualification as a Terrorist Act and Suspension of Operations
Investigative authorities have already given an official qualification to the incident: a criminal case has been opened for a terrorist act resulting in death. Specialized services and law enforcement officers continue to work at the scene, with the aim of establishing all circumstances and causes of the explosion.
Due to the tragic events, the operation of the sorting depot in Kyiv has been temporarily suspended. The logistics company is fully cooperating with the investigation and, until the official investigation is concluded, refrains from commenting on the possible causes of the incident.
