Vasyl Lomachenko is a name known to every boxing fan. A three-time world champion, holder of WBO, WBA, and The Ring belts, he has become a symbol of Ukrainian boxing worldwide. But what drives the 38-year-old fighter today? And should we expect his return to the ring?

In an exclusive interview with Sport RBC.UA, Ukrainian promoter Igor Fanyan shared his opinion on Lomachenko's possible return to professional boxing. According to him, while the financial factor is always important for athletes, the main motivator for Vasyl remains the desire to become world champion again.
"For boxers, boxing is their job and their income. If there is an opportunity to earn again, if there are such offers, then why not? And in Lomachenko's case, he is quite capable of becoming world champion again, as he is a great talent. Therefore, I support his return," Fanyan emphasized.
The Path to the Top
Lomachenko quickly gained a reputation as one of the brightest talents in the super-featherweight division. Already in his third professional bout, he won the WBO world title. In 2016, he moved up to the lightweight division and became the WBO champion again.
In May 2018, Lomachenko defeated Jorge Linares and added the WBA and The Ring world titles in the lightweight division to his collection. In December of the same year, he successfully defended these titles and won the WBO belt by defeating Jorge Pedraza.
Setbacks and New Challenges
However, Lomachenko failed to hold all titles simultaneously. In October 2020, he lost to Teofimo Lopez, which was a serious blow to his career. Nevertheless, the fighter did not give up and continued training to return to the top.
Lomachenko's last fight took place in May 2024, when he defeated George Kambosos Jr. and became the IBF world champion in the lightweight division. This success showed that even after setbacks, Lomachenko is capable of recovering and reaching new heights.
