Residents of Ukraine should not count on sweltering weather on Wednesday, June 17. Instead of the expected heat, forecasters predict changeable conditions with precipitation and thunderstorms. The atmospheric situation in the country will be determined by the influence of a cyclone located north of the state's territory.
Influence of the cyclone and moist airflows
Specialists from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UkrGMZ) explained the nature of the unstable weather. The low-pressure field associated with the cyclone will be the main factor shaping the weather in most regions. Experts clarified that atmospheric pressure itself will experience only minor fluctuations.
The key factor in changing climatic conditions will be the movement of air masses. With westerly and north-westerly flows, moist and cool air will enter the region. It is precisely this process that will cause the appearance of short-term rains and local thunderstorms.
Forecast for June 17: cloudiness and wind
According to current data, during the day on June 17, the sky will be covered with variable cloudiness. The wind on this day is expected to be predominantly from the west with a moderate speed — from 5 to 10 meters per second.
Precipitation is likely in various regions of the country. Despite the rain, the air temperature will not drop to critically low values, so the weather will not be considered cold, however, comfortable summer heat is also not expected.
Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv region
The capital region will not be an exception to the general rules. Variable cloudiness is also expected in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The wind will blow from the west at a speed of 5–10 m/s.
Forecasters pay special attention to the daytime hours on Wednesday. During these hours, short-term rains accompanied by thunder discharges are possible in places in the capital region. City dwellers are advised to have umbrellas at hand and be careful when moving outdoors.
How forecasts work
Creating accurate forecasts is a complex process, which was previously described in detail by UkrGMZ. Specialists talked about the methodologies used by forecasters and how parameters such as sunshine duration are recorded in Ukraine. Understanding these mechanisms helps the population better navigate changing weather conditions and take into account the impact of global climate change on local forecasts.
