A high-profile fight took place at the Manchester Arena under the Misfits Boxing promotion. In the main event of the evening, local pop-boxer Tommy Fury faced off against the titled strongman Eddie Hall. The bout, which many awaited with interest in the "speed vs. strength" matchup, ended with Fury winning by judges' decision.
The "Bicycle" Tactics in the First Round
The start of the fight was not as aggressive as the audience expected. Tommy Fury chose a tactic of avoiding direct confrontations, which commentators dubbed "riding a bicycle." The boxer actively moved around the ring, desperately trying to prevent the huge opponent from landing a hit.
Eddie Hall, known as "The Beast," tried several times to catch up with the agile opponent but failed to deliver anything dangerous. Despite the chase, the strongman looked fresh and showed no signs of fatigue.
Hall's Attempts and a Change in Rhythm
The second round saw slightly more activity from Fury, but after the first physical contact, he returned to his retreat tactic. At this stage, the fight looked too passive, and Hall's speed advantage did not allow him to impose his rhythm. The strongman's breathing remained steady, indicating he was ready to continue the chase.
The turning point came in the third round. Fury engaged in the fight, starting to outmaneuver his opponent. It became clear that acting as the chaser was not working for Hall. In the fourth two-minute round, the strongman tried to regain the initiative and turn the tide of the fight, but his work rate (number of actions) noticeably dropped, and the attempt failed.
The Finale and the Judges' Verdict
In the second half of the fight, the number of clinches increased significantly. This reduced the dynamics of the bout and stripped it of some spectacle, turning it into a survival struggle in the standing position. Nevertheless, the activity advantage demonstrated by Fury at key moments played a decisive role.
The panel of judges, consisting of Bellew, Chisora, and Demura, delivered a verdict in favor of Tommy Fury. The scorecards read: 59-56, 58-56, and 57-57. The victory went to the pop-boxer thanks to his ability to dictate the terms of the fight and maintain distance from his powerful opponent.
