The management of Turkish club Trabzonspor has announced the early termination of its cooperation with head coach Fatih Tekke. As Sport RBC.UA reports, citing the Turkish club's official resources, the decision to part ways was reached by mutual agreement during a meeting between the team's management and the specialist. The club, which features Ukrainian footballers Ruslan Malinovskyi and Arsений Batagov, has already begun an active search for a new manager.
Reasons for the radical changes
The key reason for the dismissal was the unsatisfactory start to the 2026/27 season. Despite a high-profile transfer campaign and the signing of star newcomers of the calibre of Mohamed Salah and Fabinho, the "maroon and blues" suffered a string of painful setbacks. The final straw for the management was the defeat to Super Lig newcomers Amedspor (1:2) and the crushing elimination by Hungary's Ferencváros (aggregate score 0:5) in the Europa League qualifiers. At present, the team sits in only 11th place in the domestic championship, with 4 points to their name after three matchdays.
Tekke's statistics at Trabzonspor
Fatih Tekke had been in charge of Trabzonspor since March 2025. Under his guidance, the team played 62 matches, recording 35 wins, 14 draws and 13 defeats. Last season, the specialist led the club to the Super Lig bronze medals and won the Turkish Cup, which made his departure a surprise to some fans.
Interim management and upcoming tasks
While the club searches for a permanent head coach, former Trabzonspor manager Hussein Çimşir will prepare Malinovskyi, Batagov and the rest of the squad for the upcoming match against Gençlerbirliği. Thus, the Ukrainian legionnaires and the entire Trabzonspor roster remain without a permanent coach at the start of the new season, adding tension ahead of the next round of the Turkish championship.
