In Kyiv, in the historic Podil district, restoration work continues following a night-time attack. On the roof of the National Museum 'Chernobyl', which became the target of a Russian rocket, rescuers discovered an important fragment of the munition. This find could be key to identifying the type of weapon used.

Operation to clear the rubble

The situation at the scene remains tense, although the main firefighting efforts have been completed. Utility services and firefighters continue to eliminate the consequences of the strike: clearing rubble, evacuating damaged vehicles, and dismantling destroyed parts of the roof. The building, which preserves the memory of the Chernobyl tragedy, suffered serious damage: the roof, part of the exhibition hall wall, and the updated exhibition, opened just a month ago, were affected.

Key evidence for the investigation

Among the pile of debris, specialists found a large fragment of a rocket. According to Yaroslav Emelianenko, head of the Association of Chernobyl Operators, the part is quite substantial and retains serial numbers. Explosives experts have already conducted preliminary processing of the find, but final identification will take time. It is precisely this data that will allow for the accurate identification of the type of weaponry used against the cultural object.

Condition of the museum and access for citizens

Despite the destruction, the area around the museum has already been opened for free passage and traffic. However, dangerous zones where work is ongoing are securely cordoned off with tape. The damage to the cultural heritage was significant: some artifacts were saved, but certain exhibits were destroyed or damaged as a result of the fire and structural collapse. Now, the main task is not only to restore the building but also to preserve what remains of the historical memory.
