On the afternoon of July 28, the Mykolaiv region was subjected to a large-scale combined attack by the Russian Armed Forces. According to local authorities, the enemy used a wide range of strike assets, including Shahed and Bandera kamikaze drones, as well as air-launched guided bombs (KAB). The shelling resulted in infrastructure damage and casualties among the civilian population.
Scale of Destruction and Air Defense Actions
Georgy Reshetilov, Acting Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed in his Telegram channel that the Air Defense Forces shot down the majority of enemy aerial targets. Despite this, individual hits and falling debris were recorded, causing damage to facilities in the region.
Significant damage was sustained by the local port and one of the industrial enterprises. In the Halitsynivska hromada, a private residential house was damaged by falling debris from a shot-down drone. Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych reported damage to both private housing and apartment buildings. Currently, utility services and rescuers are inspecting buildings to assess the scope of restoration work.
Casualties Among the Civilian Population
The most severe consequences of the attack affected civilians. The Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported that four residents were injured as a result of the actions of Russian aggressors. Among them is an 86-year-old man from the Mykolaiv district, who was hospitalized in critical condition. Doctors are providing him with all necessary medical assistance.
In addition to the pensioner, three residents of Mykolaiv itself sustained injuries — two men and one woman. The Prosecutor's Office has already initiated a criminal investigation into the attack on the civilian population.
Continued Escalation
Oleksandr Senkevych called the actions of the Russian side terrorism against civilians, noting that the aggressors are deliberately attacking residential areas. This is not the first strike on the region in recent times. On the night of July 27, Russian forces attacked civilian merchant vessels in the region's ports, resulting in one death and injuries to others. Earlier, on the morning of July 20, strike drones were directed at Mykolaiv and the region, resulting in injuries to two residents of the village of Prybuzhsk.
Rescue services continue to eliminate the consequences of the shelling, while authorities urge residents to follow safety rules amid the ongoing military threat.
