A tragic event has shaken the football community in Portugal. Former striker of Lisbon's Benfica and several other European clubs, Manu (Emmanuel), died as a result of a road traffic accident.

RBC-Ukraine reports this, citing an official statement from the club on social media X. The fatal accident occurred in the town of Vermoim, located in the suburbs of the Portuguese capital.

The management and fans of the "Eagles" expressed deep condolences over the loss. The club's official statement reads: "Sport Lisboa e Benfica expresses its deep sorrow over the death of Manu, a former player of the club. To his family and friends, we convey our most sincere condolences".

Manu had a rich and diverse career spanning several continents. As part of Lisbon's Benfica, he played 16 official matches, recording three assists.

The geography of the footballer's appearances was extensive. In addition to Portugal, where he played for Maritimo, Alverca, and Estrela, Manu played for Greek AEK (Athens) and Polish Legia from Warsaw. His resume also includes experience playing in the Chinese championship.

Manu ended his professional career in 2019, after which he hung up his boots. The tragedy that took his life was a shock to everyone who knew him as an athlete and a person.
