The spring offensive of the Russian army, which at the beginning of the year promised to be large-scale and decisive, is rapidly losing its edge. This was stated by Viktor Treugubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Group of Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a TV marathon. According to him, the offensive potential of the enemy is dwindling to zero, and there are several significant confirmations of this.
The Mathematics of War: Attacks Without Results
Treugubov pointed out a key indicator: the ratio of attacks to actual territorial gains by the enemy is deteriorating sharply. The Russians continue to launch assaults, but their effectiveness is declining. In some areas where advances were recently observed, the enemy is forced to retreat. This indicates that Moscow's strategic plans do not align with the reality on the battlefield.
Key Directions: Where the Enemy is Failing
The situation on the front is changing in favor of the Ukrainian forces:
- Liman and Kupiansk directions: attempts to break through here are proving unsuccessful. The enemy cannot hold ground and is forced to be pushed back.
- Velikoburluk direction: here, Russian forces have already begun to retreat.
- Left bank of the Oskol River: despite logistical problems and a shortage of personnel among the Defense Forces, no critical threat has been created. The Russians failed to implement their plans to seize the initiative.
- Right bank of the Oskol River: the enemy has been pushed back from Holubivka. Currently, their task is reduced to simply holding the northern outskirts of this settlement, rather than advancing on Kupiansk.
Northern Front: Sumy Region and Volchansk
Enemy activity is shifting north. Treugubov noted that the main efforts to probe the borders are concentrated in the Sumy region and the Volchansk area (South-Sloboda direction). Despite constant attempts to exert pressure and intense attacks, Russia's successes remain minimal.
Initiative Returns to Ukraine
The situation on the front has changed radically over the last few months. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have seized the initiative, achieving significant success, especially in the Kursk region. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian troops are achieving their objectives in the border areas of the Sumy region. While Russian occupiers planned to capture Sumy or Kharkiv, reality is forcing them to retreat and try to hold the defense.
