Former US President Donald Trump, in an address to the nation, made a serious accusation against American intelligence agencies. According to him, representatives of the intelligence community intentionally withheld critically important information from him regarding China's interference in the 2020 presidential elections.

Allegations of Briefing Fabrication

During his speech, Trump stated that he would initiate the immediate declassification of documents which, he claims, prove massive vulnerabilities in the US electoral system and foreign influence. He emphasized that the materials cover five key problem areas: from the theft of voters' personal data to the concealment of evidence of fraud.

The central point of the accusation was the claim that intelligence agencies manipulated the information reaching the head of state. Trump stated that dozens of important CIA and NSA reports on targeted Chinese interference were excluded from the presidential briefings he received almost daily.

"Everything most important was classified," the former president emphasized. He added that intelligence analysts allegedly admitted to intentionally tampering with daily reports to hide information from him about Beijing's activities related to the elections.

Intelligence Community Position

Western media commenting on the speech recall the conclusions already drawn by US intelligence previously. The agencies did indeed record China's desire to expand its global influence through cyber operations and agenda-setting campaigns. However, according to official assessments, Beijing did not aim to change the outcome of the vote.

Specifically, in an assessment by the National Intelligence Council published in March 2021, experts with a "high degree of confidence" concluded that China did not attempt to interfere in the election outcome. Intelligence officials explained this by stating that Chinese officials did not consider the victory of either Trump or Biden sufficiently beneficial to justify the risks of being caught in direct interference.

Furthermore, the assessment's conclusion explicitly states that China did not interfere with the electoral infrastructure itself, including vote-counting systems, which contradicts the theses of a massive conspiracy voiced by Trump.
