Former US President Donald Trump commented on the current situation on the front lines in Ukraine. According to him, the Ukrainian army is demonstrating high effectiveness in its confrontation with Russian troops, despite a significant gap in resources and numbers.

Assessment from the American leader

In his statement, cited by RBK-Ukraine with reference to Clash Report, Trump noted that things are going "not bad" for Kyiv. He emphasized the scale of the opponent: "Russia is a big country, with huge, as you know, much larger armed forces, but they (the Ukrainians) are doing not bad. They are holding on".

The key factor in success, according to the politician, is quality equipment. Trump added that Ukraine has excellent weaponry, including thanks to supplies from the US, which allows it to "cope quite well".

Casualty statistics and military spending

Trump's words about the resilience of the Ukrainian defense correlate with data voiced earlier by other sources. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the monthly losses of the Russian army on the front line amount to between 30 and 35 thousand servicemen. According to him, in certain directions, the ratio of combat losses between Ukrainian and Russian forces reaches 1 to 8 in favor of Ukraine.

The British intelligence service also presented its data: since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost almost 500,000 military personnel. The report notes that the Russian leadership is failing and is forced to retreat on the battlefield.

Financial pressure on the Kremlin

In addition to human losses, the war places a colossal financial burden on Russia. Analyst Janis Kluge calculated that the Kremlin's military spending for the first quarter of 2026 set a new record. Compared to 2025, they increased by a third and reached 5.91 trillion rubles (about $83.2 billion).

Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously noted that more than half of Russians want the war to end, as they see that the aggressor country is not winning on the battlefield.
