The U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) has published President Donald Trump's annual financial disclosure for 2025. The document, which is required to be disclosed under the Ethics in Government Act, contains shocking figures: the consolidated income of the president's family from digital asset projects exceeded $1.4 billion. However, behind these successes lies another side of the coin — analysts are noting massive losses among retail investors, whose assets have depreciated against the backdrop of falling liquidity.
Financial architecture: from DeFi to meme coins
The key driver of the American leader's personal capital growth was the activity of the decentralized finance platform World Liberty Financial. The structure, co-founded in September 2024 by Donald Trump himself and his sons, brought related companies approximately $800 million. Reporting details show that more than $520 million was received from direct sales of $WLFI tokens, while the sale of business stakes added another $250 million.
The second major source of income was named digital assets. The sale of named tokens ($TRUMP meme coins) brought the head of state $635 million in royalties and direct sales. The report also records income from brand licensing for foreign development projects and media contracts, but it was the crypto sector that provided the main capital growth.
Exchange crash and liquidity risks
While project founders are fixing billion-dollar profits, the market situation for ordinary holders is extremely unfavorable. An independent audit of on-chain data conducted by Arkham Intelligence and Santiment platforms revealed a deep asymmetry in the distribution of benefits. Since the end of 2025, the market value of the native governance token $WLFI has fallen by 65–75%, updating historical lows in the first half of 2026.
Experts highlight several factors that contributed to market destabilization:
- Seller pressure: After the initial speculative surge, trading volumes on verified exchanges show a steady downward trend. Investor expectations regarding the unlocking of large token pools have intensified price pressure from early buyers.
- Credit protocol deals: Additional criticism was caused by operations to pledge 5 billion $WLFI tokens on the Dolomite platform. This deal, aimed at attracting $75 million in stablecoins, led to a temporary liquidity deficit for ordinary lenders.
Legal assessments and administration reaction
The situation surrounding Trump's crypto empire has provoked a sharp reaction in the legal sphere. Opponents of the current administration and human rights groups point to the risks of a conflict of interest. A significant part of the president's personal fortune is formed at the expense of the digital asset sector, the development and state regulation of which are coordinated by White House executive orders, including initiatives to create a U.S. National Strategic Crypto Reserve.
Nevertheless, representatives of the White House and World Liberty Financial management reject accusations of unfair practices. Officials classify token market dynamics as a standard manifestation of high volatility in the crypto industry. In their comments, they emphasize that the management of the president's personal finances is carried out by independent trust funds, which, according to them, completely excludes direct operational interference by the head of state in commercial activities.
