US President Donald Trump has introduced new conditions into negotiations with Iran, demanding significant amendments to the draft agreement concerning Tehran's nuclear program and the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by sources in the President's administration interviewed by Axios.

Strict Requirements Regarding Nuclear Uranium

The key point of disagreement became the wording regarding highly enriched uranium. The Trump administration insists on maximum transparency and detail: Washington demands a clear regulation describing exactly how and within what timeframe the US will gain access to Iranian nuclear material. The goal is to eliminate ambiguity in the future and guarantee control over the disposal process of stockpiles.

Strait of Hormuz and Unfreezing of Assets

In addition to the nuclear issue, Trump initiated a review of provisions related to the resumption of transit through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Previously, the White House had already offered Iran to open the strait and restore previous shipping volumes within 30 days. Now the conditions are being tightened, requiring immediate action from Tehran.

According to The New York Times, the US President also wants to adjust clauses regarding the financial sphere. This refers to the unfreezing of Iranian assets that were frozen as part of sanctions. The Iranian side previously stated that it was ready to discuss the nuclear program only on condition of unfreezing assets worth $12 billion and lifting the blockade of the strait.

Deadlines and Risks of Negotiation Collapse

Despite the disagreements that have arisen, the White House still expects a successful conclusion of the deal. However, the exact timing of the document signing remains uncertain. Administration officials warn that the process could take anywhere from a few days to an indefinite period.

Media sources note that Donald Trump is irritated by the delay in response from Tehran. The US President expects quick results and guarantees that Iran will never develop nuclear weapons. In the event of an agreement, the parties must cease all military actions in the region, including conflicts in Lebanon.
