American political influencer Laura Loomer stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that US President Donald Trump is frustrated by the lack of progress in ending the war in Ukraine and is actively seeking a way to bring the parties to the conflict to the negotiating table. According to her, the head of the White House aims to fulfill the promise made during the 2024 election campaign — to end the conflict — and intends to bring both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table to achieve this.
Frustration over the unfulfilled "day one" promise
Loomer emphasized that the key source of the president's dissatisfaction is that the war was not stopped "on the very first day," as promised during the 2024 campaign. The influencer claims that Trump perceives this as a personal obligation to voters and is therefore making efforts to secure an agreement, even though the process is moving slower than planned in the White House.
The midterm elections factor
According to Loomer's assessment, the president's position is also influenced by the approach of crucial midterm elections, which will determine whether Donald Trump becomes a so-called "lame duck" in the final two years of his term. In this context, the desire to demonstrate concrete results on the Ukrainian settlement takes on additional political weight for the administration: success on the negotiating track could strengthen the Republicans' positions ahead of the vote.
Different attitudes of the parties toward peace
Loomer also pointed to what she believes is the differing attitude of the two sides toward the peace process. "It seems that Zelenskyy is much more willing and agrees more to reach a deal, unlike Vladimir Putin and Lavrov, who weekly send their Russian puppeteers to promote propaganda in the American media," she stated. The influencer added that the behavior of the Russian leadership, in her words, "clearly demonstrates a lack of interest in peace" and "there is no respect for the Trump administration."
Divergence within the US administration
Against the backdrop of these statements, a divergence in assessments of settlement prospects has been recorded within the US administration itself. Previously, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed doubt about the possibility of a speedy end to the war through negotiations, pointing out that there are currently no signs of a settlement approaching. At the same time, President Trump expressed the opposite view, stating that the war is drawing to a close and a corresponding agreement will soon be signed, and also asserting that he had not previously promised a quick finale to the conflict, but can now assure that peace is approaching.
Thus, public rhetoric surrounding the Ukrainian settlement combines the president's personal motivation, the electoral context of the midterm elections, and contradictory signals within the American leadership regarding how close a potential peace agreement might be.
