US President Donald Trump, speaking at the G7 summit, made a bold statement about the situation in Ukraine. In his view, the key to ending the conflict lies in direct dialogue between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin, but for now, this process is blocked.

"They just don't know how to agree"

The American leader emphasized that he has already held separate talks with the heads of both states — personally with the Ukrainian president and by phone with the Russian one. During the conversation with Putin, Trump said he shared important information, and he called the dialogue "very successful".

"They need to talk, but they just don't know how to do it. They just don't know how to agree with each other," RBC-Ukraine quotes Trump.

Casualties and the role of the aggressor

Answering questions about the course of hostilities, Trump focused on human losses. He noted that both sides are suffering significant losses, but Russia is losing more soldiers because it is the aggressor.

"It seems that both sides are losing a lot of soldiers. Russia is losing more because they are attacking. When you attack in a war, when you advance in a war, you lose more people," the US president said.

Negotiation plans and Europe's position

According to previously announced plans, after resolving the situation around Iran, the next priority for Washington will be finding ways to end the Russo-Ukrainian war. Trump noted that hostilities claim about 25,000 lives every month.

During discussions with Zelenskyy, the question of holding negotiations with Putin's participation on US territory was also raised. According to the American side, such a format could make it difficult for the Kremlin leader to evade direct dialogue.

Parallel to Washington's initiatives, the German Foreign Ministry does not rule out that the negotiation process could begin as early as summer. Berlin believes that the war has effectively reached a dead end, and Putin may be considering the option of a diplomatic settlement.
