US President Donald Trump, while speaking with journalists at the White House, expressed support for the idea of a personal meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. The discussion was prompted by an open letter from Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed to Vladimir Putin.
Call for Compromise
In response to press questions about a possible dialogue between the heads of state, Trump called this initiative a "very good idea." According to him, both leaders are "good people" and need to find common ground. The American president emphasized that compromise is necessary to stop the losses, which, according to his data, reach 45,000 people monthly on the front line.
"I think it would be wonderful if they met," Trump said, commenting on the proposal from his Ukrainian counterpart.
Kyiv's Initiative
In his open address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented data on Russian army losses and proposed holding negotiations on the condition of a ceasefire along the entire front line. Additionally, the Ukrainian leader put forward a format for a prisoner exchange of "all for all".
RBC-Ukraine notes that during the conversation with Trump, journalists hinted at a possible link between Zelenskyy's decision and the current situation in Iran, where the US is involved in a conflict.
Kremlin's Reaction
In Moscow, they have already reacted to the Ukrainian president's letter. Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov reported that the President's administration would definitely familiarize itself with the text of the message addressed to Vladimir Putin.
