On the sidelines of the G7 summit, US President Donald Trump outlined strict conditions under which Washington is willing to maintain peace with Tehran. The White House chief warned that Iran has exactly two months to fulfill the obligations of a new agreement. Otherwise, the US is prepared to resume military operations.
Ultimatum in Geneva
According to RBK-Ukraine, Trump directly stated that there is a time limit for implementing the memorandum of understanding. "If everything is not done within 60 days, it's not a big deal. We will start bombing again," the publication quotes the American leader.
Despite the threat of escalation, the US President noted that he does not seek military action, as the current situation is developing favorably. However, he emphasized his absolute unwillingness to allow the development of Iran's nuclear program: "But, perhaps, we will have to do it, because we will never let them get nuclear weapons".
Essence of the agreements
The conflict is based on a document about which Trump reported on June 14. According to the terms of the peace agreements, Iran undertakes to resume free navigation through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. In return, the US must lift the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The official signing of the memorandum is scheduled for June 19 in Geneva. After formalizing the ceasefire, the parties intend to begin complex negotiations on the future of Iran's nuclear program. Trump warned that the lack of a final agreement on this issue could become a trigger for the resumption of strikes.
Israel on the sidelines of negotiations
The situation around the agreement has taken an unexpected turn in relations between allies. As CNN reports, Israel, a key US partner in the Middle East, asked Washington to provide the text of the agreement with Iran. However, the American side refused access to the document. Thus, Tel Aviv remains unaware of the details of the deal, which could radically change regional security.
