On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, generating equipment at the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant was severely damaged following a large-scale Russian attack. The information was officially confirmed by the management of the Centrenergo power-generating company, who emphasized the critical nature of the current situation ahead of the upcoming heating season.
Damage assessment and recovery plans
Centrenergo CEO Serhiy Isachenko reported that the company's specialized experts are currently focused on assessing the extent of the equipment damage. As soon as the security situation and safety requirements allow repair crews to safely access the site, specialists will begin restoration work. The management stated that the engineering team is fully prepared to eliminate the consequences of the strike.
Threats to the power grid and attack context
The company emphasizes that Russian forces are purposefully targeting Ukraine's critical infrastructure on the eve of cold weather, aiming to deprive the population of electricity and heat. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that the nighttime combined strike was concentrated primarily on energy facilities in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi also highlighted that such massive combined attacks on the power grid have not been recorded since the end of the last heating season.
Contradictory data
It is worth noting that discussion points periodically arise in the information space regarding the restoration and operation of the Trypilska TPP. Aside from the destruction caused by current shelling, Ukrainian media and law enforcement agencies previously discussed corruption risks and criminal cases related to tenders for the repair and protection of key energy facilities, which creates additional challenges for transparency and infrastructure recovery timelines.
