Stefanos Tsitsipas is back on top. In the final of the prestigious Swiss tournament in Gstaad, the Greek tennis player defeated Belgian Raphael Collignon. This triumph was particularly significant: it marked Tsitsipas's first title in 16 months.
Drama in Three Sets
The final match was tense and lengthy. The Greek athlete did not immediately take the upper hand over his opponent. In the first set, Tsitsipas managed to break Collignon's serve once and confidently closed the set with a score of 6-4. However, the second set turned into a real battle, extending to a tiebreak. In this segment, the advantage lay with the Belgian, who won the set 7-6.
The decisive third set passed without chances for Collignon. Tsitsipas, having picked up speed, dominated on the court and won the deciding set 6-3. The total duration of the match was 2 hours and 18 minutes.
Return to Victory
This title became the 13th in Stefanos's career on the ATP Tour. His previous victory was celebrated back in February 2025 at the tournament in Dubai. For the Greek star, this became an important signal of a return to form. The peak moment in Tsitsipas's career remains 2021, when he rose to third place in the world rankings, won the ATP 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo, and reached the final of the French Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller.
The victory in Switzerland also has practical significance for the rankings. Already on Monday, Tsitsipas will make a powerful leap, rising 34 positions to take the 51st place, thereby returning to the top 60 of the world's strongest tennis players.
Plans for the American Season
After the match, the athlete himself admitted that he feels the need for recovery. "I am going home. I will need one or two days of rest. It was a long week, many crazy matches, and I need to recover and rest a bit to be ready for the American swing," Tsitsipas shared.
The Greek tennis player emphasized that he looks forward to the opportunity to show his best results in the American series of tournaments, for which he needs to be fresh and ready for several long weeks on the road.
Separately, it is worth noting news from women's tennis: it has become known that the 2026 Wimbledon finalist Karolina Muchova will miss several weeks and will not play at the upcoming tournament in Toronto.
