Ukraine and Germany have officially launched the joint production of BARS unmanned aerial vehicles. The project is being implemented as part of the bilateral defense initiative "Building with Ukraine." The signing of the agreement was announced by Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybyga, in his X social media account.
Agreement Details
The document was signed by the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius. As Sybyga noted, the agreement was the result of the joint efforts of the defense ministries of both countries. The German side is taking full responsibility for financing the first stage of production.
All equipment manufactured under the project will be immediately transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for use on the front lines. This decision is aimed at rapidly strengthening Ukrainian units with modern reconnaissance and strike capabilities.
Cooperation Context
The agreement to produce BARS drones is part of a broader process of integrating Ukraine's defense industry into Western technological supply chains. Previously, US President Donald Trump announced the provision of rights for Ukraine to produce Patriot air defense systems on its own territory.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybyga confirmed that Kyiv is actively negotiating with international partners to obtain licenses for the production of Patriot anti-ballistic systems. This issue remains one of the main agenda items for diplomatic meetings.
The permission from Washington, officially announced by Trump, should significantly accelerate the process of creating Ukraine's own anti-missile defense. For now, the key issue remains the actual timelines for launching production lines for complex anti-ballistic missiles.
