The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has confirmed that a gradual discharge of a portion of military personnel will begin by the end of the current year. This applies to defenders who have been in combat conditions since the very beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Key Priority — Fairness
According to the ministry, one of the main issues in the army reform is ensuring fairness for those who have been performing combat tasks since the first days of the conflict and have spent the most time at the positions. It is for this category of military personnel that the demobilization process is planned to begin.
"For them, we are starting a gradual discharge from service by the end of the year," the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine emphasized.
Reform Context
Just a month ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a large-scale reform of the Armed Forces. The list of planned changes includes:
- increasing military salaries;
- introducing new types of contracts;
- significantly increasing payments to infantrymen;
- gradual discharge from service for a portion of defenders.
General Staff Position
Andriy Hnatov, Head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, previously commented on the possibility of demobilization. He noted that mass discharge is not possible at this stage. Demobilization is being considered exclusively for those who have continuously participated in hostilities since the beginning of the invasion.
Details from the Head of State
Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke in more detail about the new army reform on June 12. The information was published in his Telegram channel and confirmed by video materials from the Ministry of Defense.
